Zhuang Aiping ("Karen Zhuang")
Consultant
Beijing Office, Aviation Practice |
Karen Zhuang joined GCW Consulting in May, 2001. Prior to joining
GCW, she worked for Air China for nearly 8 years. Over the course of this time, she
served in various positions, from Tariff Coordinator to Deputy Director of the marketing
department. She notes proudly that she was always the youngest person in whatever position
she held within Air China.
Karen's experiences during her Air China days were formative, and enabled
her to learn a great deal about the aviation industry both within and exterior to China.
She led research on the highly prestigious Air China People’s Republic of China
(PRC)/U.S. route development plan, which gave her much-sought after experience in the
U.S. market. In addition, Karen was responsible for managing Japan, Korea and Asia-Pacific
routes, code sharing and alliances for Air China International.
While in charge of the marketing and sales on Air China's Asian routes
in 1997, Karen helped Air China increase its revenue and market share on Southeast Asian
and Australian routes (despite the tumultuous Asian financial crisis). Markets that
Karen also can claim as benefiting from her efforts include Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney,
and Rangoon. Furthermore Karen is GCW’s link to the National Tourism Bureau and
major travel agencies in the PRC.
Karen's success is not limited to the office. While attending the Civil
Aviation College of China, obtained a B.A in Aviation English. While working at Air
China, Karen also pursued a degree in International Economics at People's University
of China, which she obtained in July 1996.
Karen can be reached at GCW’s Beijing office via email

Although she seems perpetually busy, Aiping considers herself easy-going.
While she enjoys working hard, she takes particular joy from her family. She and her
husband, Quan Hongbing, reside in Beijing with their son. She enjoys playing
badminton, watching soccer, visiting interesting places and collecting entrance tickets
and playing Guzheng (a traditional Chinese musical instrument). As for food, she enjoys
crab, sashimi, and Swiss chocolate. When she was a child, she did not aspire to be in
the aviation industry, but had her sights set on being a radiobroadcaster.
