Xianping “Ping” Wang
Co-founder,
Executive Vice President and Head of China Practice

Xianping Wang ("Ping" to his friends and clients) is co-founder and EVP of GCW Consulting. He is also the head of firm's China practice, which has offices in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai.

After several years of ground-breaking aviation work in the People's Republic of China, Ping recently received the honor of being appointed as Special Advisor to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). He will continue in his leadership role at GCW Consulting during his four-year appointment.

Ping started his U.S. career as an attorney in the Galland, Kharasch, Morse & Garfinkle law firm in 1991. Ping was an essential part of the formation and growth of GKMG Consulting Services before GCW Consulting was established.

Over the last decade, Ping and his colleagues have made material contributions to many pioneer projects that reshaped the PRC aviation industry, including the first PRC airport system integration project, the first PRC-foreign airline code-share relationship, the first PRC hub structure design, the first PRC airport corporate strategy, the first international air service development program, and the first total logistics center city business strategy. He is also active in assisting PRC and foreign carriers in dealing with bilateral-agreement issues and operation issues, including airline alliance partner selection, airline bilateral cooperative structure and documentation/negotiation, and securing and improving traffic rights to or over the PRC.

Ping played an instrumental role in introducing international management concepts and business practices to the aviation industry of China. He envisioned and organized the most comprehensive and the most successful aviation training program for PRC aviation managerial staff, with hundreds of such staff being trained in Washington in the last several years.

In the infrastructure development area, Ping served as project manager on the China Southwest Region Aviation Infrastructure Development project, which was funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency. In addition, Ping and his colleagues maintain a solid track record of facilitating a wide range of non-Chinese firms wishing to penetrate the China market. Ping and his colleagues offer services ranging from developing marketing plans to local partner identification and contract negotiation.

Ping received his LL.B and LL.M degrees from Peking University and China Academy of Social Sciences respectively. After practicing maritime and international trade law in Beijing for several years, he received his J.D. degree at Duke University School of Law in 1991, and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in the same year. He is a member of the federal bar of the Fourth Circuit.

Speaking Topics: Ping comments regularly on the civil aviation industry in the People’s Republic of China, including such issues as hub development, Sino-global aviation partnerships, alliances, aviation infrastructure and air service development and bilateral matters. Ping travels between the U.S. and China and can be reached at GCW’s Arlington office at pingwang@gcwconsulting.com, 703-522-0970, or 011-86-1380-100-7101 when in China.

Ping was born on March 18, 1956 in the PRC. He and his wife, Linlin, reside in Northern Virginia. There is no pet (yet) as the "cat or dog" debates between their two daughters has yet to be resolved, in spite of the fact that both parents are in "the profession of dispute resolution".

Ping spends his leisure with the family traveling (since the monthly U.S.-PRC travel is not enough for him), and reading history/biographies. His favorite authors are Li Shangyin, William Manchester and David Halberstam. His favorite artist is Amy and his favorite musicians are Momo and Felix Mendelssohn. His favorite team is, of course, the Duke Blue Devils, and his favorite color is -- what else -- true Duke blue.
