Carol Chen
Consultant, Aviation Practice
Shenzhen Office |
Carol Chen joined GCW Consulting in September
2006 and is based in GCW’s Shenzhen office.
Prior to joining GCW, Carol already had 8 years
experience within the aviation industry. She started her aviation
career with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in 1993, after
graduating from Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Trade and obtaining
her Bachelor’s degree in economics. Between 1993 and 1996, she
worked in the planning and management department, mainly responsible
for negotiating and coordinating ground handling contracts with
international and domestic airlines. In the following 5 years with
Baiyun Airport, Carol served as director of the management
department of the Terminal Administration Co., in charge of terminal
property management, from which she learned valuable experience in
team management and terminal commercial operations.
In order to pursue her further education and also
to seek different cultural experiences, Carol resigned from Baiyun
Airport in early 2002 and went to New Zealand, where she completed a
two-year postgraduate program in Auckland University and obtained
her Masters in International Business. During her second year of
study, she conducted a comparative study on the overall efficiencies
of privatized airports in Australasia with different market
positions and under different regulatory regimes. A paper based on
her study was later published in the International Journal of Public
Management.
During her stay in New Zealand, Carol also worked
as an intern with Airbiz (formerly Airplan Group), an
Australia-based aviation consulting firm. She participated in
various projects in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, namely,
Options Study For The Implementation Of Hold Baggage Screening At 7
International Airports In New Zealand, Rarotonga Airport Runway
Extension Study For Cook Islands, Pitcairn Islands Aerodrome Study
For British High Commission And Queenstown Airport Master Planning
In New Zealand. Through these practices, Carol obtained a profound
insight of the aviation industry and a good exposure to the
consulting arena.
After her return to China in 2004, Carol joined a
local consulting firm and participated in the “Key Account
Competition Strategy Study” for China Mobile, Sichuan province.
After a few months, Carol moved on to a public company listed in the
US and held the position of project manager in project development
and business advisory sector, responsible for the coordination,
monitoring and implementation of various projects.
Carol is proud of her cross-cultural and cross-industrial
experiences, which will certainly benefit her both professionally
and personally.
